The Greater San Antonio Builders Associations (GSABA) & National Association of Home Builders (NAHB)
The Student Chapter program is dedicated to enriching the educational experience of students by offering them first-hand exposure to the real world of the home building industry through membership, educational programming and networking opportunities.
GSABA’s Leadership Team led by Frank Sitterle, Jr., Steve Louis and Dan Markson worked with St. Philip’s College starting in 2015. The first step was working with a faculty adviser and drawing on the mentors and industry leaders in our Association. During the organization of the first Student Chapter, membership grew to 75+ students strong.
The St. Philip’s Student Chapter has consistently won awards for their leadership on campus and for their community service work. The students complete a community service project every two months and help Seniors and Families in need by building decks, painting exteriors of homes, replacing roofing and building wheel chair ramps.
The second GSABA/NAHB Student Chapter was started at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) in 2016.
The UTSA GSABA/NAHB Student Chapter won ‘Best Student Chapter of the Year’ from NAHB in 2017 and traveled to the International Builders Show to compete against other Student Chapters. The students have competed in two events designing, costing out and building three playhouses that were later given to a ministry and a local shelter that serves women and children. This playhouse build-off has been sponsored by Builders First Source, 84 Lumber and McCoy’s in 2017 and 2018.
